Peter Dodek

Peter Dodek, MD (Toronto), MHSc (British Columbia) is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. During his active career, he was an Intensivist and Chair of the Critical Care Working Group within the Center for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver. He has taught internal medicine, critical care medicine, and quality management in health care to undergraduates, postgraduates, and practising physicians. He has also worked as an advisor to the Provincial Critical Care Working Group and the Health Technology Assessment Committee of the B.C. Ministry of Health.

Dr. Dodek’s recent research interests include determinants of family satisfaction, patient safety, organizational culture, and moral distress in critical care. In 2016, Dr. Dodek was awarded a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to test an innovative participatory approach to understand and improve moral distress in ICU personnel. In addition, he is currently a co-investigator on several other CIHR-funded clinical trials in critical care and Sepsis Canada, a CIHR-funded network. Among his awards, he is most proud of receiving the Deborah J Cook Mentorship Award from the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group.
