Patricia Fontela
Patricia Fontela is a pediatric intensivist and epidemiologist that practices at the Montreal Childrens’ Hospital. At McGill University, she is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pediatrics at McGill University and an Associate Member of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health.
Dr. Fontela has pursued her medical degree and clinical training in in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care in Brazil, her native country. She then moved to Canada, where she completed a second fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology at McGill University.
Her research focuses on the personalization of antibiotic use in the pediatric critical care setting. Currently, she studies the use of antibiotics in critically ill children, including the determinants that influence antibiotic usage, the clinical reasoning behind antibiotic-related decisions, and the use of biomarkers to guide antibiotic treatments in this setting.
