Research Coordinators Group (CCCRCG)

Dr. Michelle Kho is a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Critical Care Rehabilitation and Knowledge Translation in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. Her academic home is in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster and her clinical home is the ICU in St Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.

As a physiotherapist and methodologist, Dr. Kho has designed a vibrant, vigorous program of research focused on improving the rehabilitation of persons recovering from critical illness. The CYCLE Program (Critical Care Cycling to Improve Lower Extremity Strength) is a multi-method and multi-professional program of investigations using a physiological and clinical approach to exercise, which will encourage and examine in-bed cycling for patients on advanced life support. Her CIHR-funded pilot study, TryCYCLE involves both passive and active in-bed cycling for mechanically ventilated patients in Hamilton and eventually elsewhere in Canada. This work of the CCCTG could improve the outcomes of ICU survivors and strengthen rehabilitation research in the field of critical care.
