Jennifer R Foster

Pediatric Subgroup (CCCPEDS)

I completed by MD at Dalhousie University in 2003, my pediatrics residency at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and University of Ottawa in 2008 and my Pediatric Critical Care training in both Ottawa and at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia in 2010. I am currently a pediatric intensivist at IWK Health and a member of the Board of Directors at the CCCTG. My research interests focus on optimizing the patient and family experience in the PICU.

Recent work

Optimizing Family Presence in the PICU

Building on work related to the impact and experience of restricted family presence in the PICU during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Foster is working collaboratively to develop evidence-based recommendations for family presence policy and practice that will apply in any context. This work is funded by the CIHR.

In my own words

I believe that research gains significance when it is collaborative and driven by the patients and families we serve. In the CCCTG I have found a community that embraces new researchers, provides mentorship and support for researchers at any stage of their career, is excited by collaborative patient and family engagement, and has become vital to my research endeavors.
