Asher Mendelson

Asher Mendelson is a Clinician-Scientist in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Manitoba, and an intensive care physician at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg. He graduated medical school at McGill University, with residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of British Columbia, and Critical Care fellowship and Clinician Investigator Program at Western University. He received a Master’s in Experimental Medicine at UBC, and a PhD in Medical Biophysics at Western University studying the regulation of blood flow in capillary networks.

The focus of Dr. Mendelson’s research program is microvascular physiology in sepsis and critical illness. He has recently been awarded the prestigious MMSF Du Val Henson Clinical Research Professorship (2022-2025). He is the project co-lead for the National Preclinical Sepsis Platform: a multicentre preclinical trial within the CIHR-funded Sepsis Canada Research Network. At the bedside, he is developing advanced biomedical optics and signals analysis tools to monitor microvascular oxygen delivery and perfusion with the goal to improve the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular failure in the ICU. Dr. Mendelson is the communications executive for the Canadian Critical Care Translational Biology Group.
