Kristine Russell

Kristine Russell has been a Patient and Family Advisor with Alberta Health Services for over 3 years and has consulted on a number of projects within their organization including the Post Covid Rehabilitation Response Framework and currently as a co-Chair on the Diversity and Engagement Strategic Clinical Network. She is also a Patient Advisor with Action on Sepsis, a research cluster at the University of British Columbia focused on tackling the complex issues of prevention, diagnosis, management, and long-term care of sepsis patients and their families.

Through this work, she and her daughter Ellie had the opportunity to travel (pre-pandemic) to share their lived experience with over 300 medical students at the University of British Columbia in 2020.

Kristine started as a member of Sepsis Canada as a Patient Partner in 2020. She is a Steering Committee Member, Training Committee Member and Chair of their Communications Working Group. In the fall of 2021, she was hired to contract as their Marketing and Communications Program Manager. She is also one of 5 patient partners who developed and will be facilitating the Sepsis Canada Interdisciplinary Training Program. The Sepsis Canada Interdisciplinary Research Training Program was developed to attract various trainee candidates, including patient and family partners, early-career researchers, healthcare professionals, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research staff, knowledge translators, and community members.

Kristine is also a Patient Advisor for CAIC, (Canadian Antimicrobial Innovation Coalition) which is a member-based non-profit organization helping to protect Canada’s population from the rise in antimicrobial resistance who are committed in engaging Canada’s public, health sector and governments on strategies to combat AMR through biomedical innovation.

And lastly and most importantly, Kristine is a wife to Steven and mother to three wonderful children. Nolan who is 13, Gavin who is 10 and Ellie-and the catalyst for all of the work she does, who is 8.
